God of War

God of War is an action-adventure game franchise created by David Jaffe at Sony's Santa Monica Studio. It began in 2005 on the PlayStation 2 (PS2) video game console and has become a flagship series for PlayStation, consisting of nine installments across multiple platforms. Based on ancient mythologies, the story follows Kratos, a Spartan warrior and later the Greek God of War, who was tricked into killing his family by his former master, the original Greek God of War Ares.

This sets off a series of events that leads to wars with the different mythological pantheons. The Greek-based games see Kratos follow a path of vengeance due to the machinations of the Olympian gods, while the Norse-based games which take place many years after the Greek-based ones and introduce his son Atreus as a secondary protagonist, show an older Kratos on a path of redemption and inadvertently coming into conflict with the Norse gods.

1. Original Trilogy (God of War, God of War II, God of War III):
   - The original trilogy focuses on Kratos' quest for revenge against the Olympian gods, particularly Zeus. The games are known for their intense combat, epic boss battles, and a storyline inspired by Greek mythology.

2. God of War (2018):
   - The 2018 installment is a soft reboot of the series, shifting its setting and mythology from Greek to Norse. Kratos, now living in the realm of Midgard, is accompanied by his son Atreus. The story revolves around their journey and explores themes of fatherhood, redemption, and Norse mythology.

3. Gameplay:
   - The "God of War" series is known for its visceral and combo-based combat. Players control Kratos, using his iconic double-chained blades or other weapons to defeat enemies and powerful bosses.
   - The 2018 installment introduced a third-person, over-the-shoulder camera perspective, a departure from the fixed cinematic camera angles of the original trilogy.

4. Norse Mythology:
   - In the 2018 game, Kratos and Atreus venture through various realms of Norse mythology, encountering gods, monsters, and other mythical creatures from Norse lore.

5. Critical Acclaim:
   - The 2018 "God of War" received widespread critical acclaim for its narrative, character development, combat mechanics, and visuals. It won numerous awards, including Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2018.

It's worth noting that there may have been new developments or additional games in the "God of War" series since my last update. I recommend checking official sources or gaming news for the latest information on the series.
